Swiss central bank president Hildebrand resigns

The Swiss National Bank said Monday that Philipp Hildebrand is resigning from his office as chairman of the governing board of the central bank effective immediately.

Hildebrand will make a statement on his decision at 3:15 p.m. local time and will also make a number of documents available, the SNB said.

Hildebrand's resignation comes amid a controversy over currency trades made by his wife just weeks ahead of an SNB move that significantly weakened the franc. Just last week, Hildebrand had said he had no plans to resign and denied any wrongdoing.
